Free parenting classes offered through HUSD

The Humboldt Unified School District (HUSD) offers workshops throughout the school year on various topics to help provide tools for parents, grandparents or anyone working with children.

These workshops are free and most provide free childcare on-site by district staff. In September, HUSD will begin holding its Grandparent Support group. This group is for anyone caring for grandchildren or kin who would like to learn more about community resources in the area. These resources can be legal help, finding childcare, navigating the court system, and/or learning about mental health providers in the area.

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the HUSD district office located at 6411 North Robert Road in the Family Resource Center located in building 400 in the back of the district campus. It is a great way for grandparents to connect and support each other. Free childcare will be available next door to the Family Resource Center in our Bright Futures preschool during the meeting. Registration is recommended.

HUSD is also providing a one-day workshop that will provide the basic principles of both the Parenting the Love and Logic Way model and Working with Traumatized Children. Two long time HUSD facilitators, Beth Dunn and Ann Sult, will facilitate the workshop. In the past, they have taught these classes separately but will collaborate to bring these important topics to our community. Both portions of the workshop can help anyone who works with children from parents to teachers to foster parents.

Attendees will walk away from the workshop with real world strategies for implementation. This workshop will take place on Saturday September 22nd from 9:00am-1:00pm at the HUSD district office located at 6411 North Robert Road in building 400 in the rear of the campus. Again, this workshop will offer free childcare in our Bright Futures preschool classroom on site. We will have light snacks and drinks for the attendees and the children. Limited seating is available so registration is required.
