Obituary: Maxine Sportsman Rutt
Our beloved Maxine Sportsman Rutt, 91, was a mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She entered the gates of heaven on Oct. 14, 2018, in Prescott, Arizona. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Rutt. Maxine was born in Rothville, Missouri.
She and her family moved to Elgin, Illinois, where she was raised. She met Stan, her husband at the skating rink, where he swept her off her skates (feet). She then went to work for the Elgin Watch factory doing dictation for the “big shots,” as she would tell us. She told us that all day long she would type, type, type. Maxine married her sweetheart, Stanley, in 1947, then moved to Arizona in 1967. She was an amazing woman whose laugh was very contagious to all of us and people around her. One of many things we will remember is her laugh and her love of chocolate pudding!
Maxine is survived by her three children, Denny Rutt (Gale), Sharon Carroll (Frank), Susan Rutt; grandchildren, Dan Carroll (Carrie), Stacey Carroll, Ryan Rutt (Katie), and Cody Rutt; great-grandchildren, Emily, Dylan and Amerah; siblings, twin sister, Nadine Odell and Bert Coquillette. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Clyde, Francis and Glenn Sportsman. Services will be held at the V.A. Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona, on Oct. 22, at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements entrusted to Hampton Funeral Home.
