Randy Graf joins PNN as new advertising sales manager
Prescott News Network (PNN) has hired Randy Graf as its new advertising sales manager.
This role is responsible for assisting the sales staff and providing advertising opportunities both for the company’s hardcopy newspapers and their websites.
Graf, 60, began working for newspapers when he was 21 years old and has worked in some form of publishing ever since.
“I kind of feel like the newspaper industry just grabs ahold of you and doesn’t let go,” he said.
Originally from Wisconsin, he started as an advertising sales representative in his home town, eventually becoming an advertising director and then a publisher for a couple of newspapers in the state.
He then moved to Manhattan in New York City, where he spent much of his working career with an advertising agency that had about 1,500 accounts, “so pretty big,” he said.
More recently, he worked for a corporate group publisher in Ohio, and then a group of newspapers in the Washington DC area.
After all of that hustle and bustle in big cities, moving to Prescott was a breath of fresh air.
“It’s a different pace,” he said. “In all those years working in Manhattan, I never ran into somebody on the streets that I knew. I wanted to get back to meeting clients and then seeing them at the grocery store later on that day. I kind of missed that experience.”
Along with that came the scenic area.
“You don’t normally get to work in a place that’s quite so beautiful,” Graf said. “You end up coming here for a convention or a getaway vacation, but you don’t get to work in these beautiful surroundings.”
Graf has three grown children, two living in Washington DC and one in San Francisco.
In his free time, he enjoys cooking, vacationing with his family and various forms of outdoor recreation.
“I really enjoy gardening,” he said. “You can look at something that doesn’t look so great and a couple hours later, you’ve accomplished something. You don’t always get that in life.”
