Letter: Suppressed anger on the Hill
Suppressed anger on the Hill
The Kavanaugh hearing and the disrespect shown to the accusers by the “president” and the republican senators has finally burst a dam of suppressed anger that has kept many women silent for decades.
There is not a woman alive that has not been sexually harassed and at least 1 in 5 has been assaulted. Boorish, aggressive behavior has long been written off a ‘boys will be boys’ or a ham-handed attempt to appear “masculine.” This is further enabling said behaviors.
Since many parents aren’t going beyond the birds and bees talk, (if that) I would encourage a school setting for small discussion groups of boys and girls (guided by a trained adult) to talk about feelings and respectful conduct (and the law.) This needs to not be a “one off” and the discussion needs to be re-visited throughout high school.
Our current government “leaders” are not modeling behaviors and addressing issues important to me. I will use my vote and my wallet to support those that do come November.
