AVONDALE (AP) — Authorities say a school bus rolled onto its side after colliding with a pickup that ran a stop sign on the southwestern outskirts of metro Phoenix on Wednesday but that there were no serious injuries among the elementary school children on the bus and the two drivers.
Officials said the students were released to their parents, the pickup’s driver wasn’t injured and the bus driver was transported to a hospital with minor injuries.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Bryant Vanegas said eight children were aboard the bus, while Rural Metro Fire spokesman Shawn Gilleland said there were six.
Vanegas said the incident is under investigation but that impairment and speed don’t appear to be factors in what caused the collision.
The pickup had severe front-end damage.
The wreck occurred near Avondale in an unincorporated area near Southern Avenue and El Mirage Road.
