[Marymount California wins Cal Pac Tournament title]

TORRANCE, Calif. — Embry-Riddle’s men’s soccer team couldn’t complete a revenge-tour trifecta in the Cal Pac Conference Tournament championship match on Saturday, Nov. 10, as Marymount California won its fifth straight title and garnered an automatic berth into the NAIA national tournament with a 4-0 victory.

At El Camino College, the fifth-seeded Eagles succumbed to the Mariners after having notched back-to-back upset wins over fourth-seeded Benedictine-Mesa in the quarterfinals on Nov. 7 and top-seeded UC Merced in the semifinals on Nov. 8.

During the regular season, the Eagles lost their finale to Benedictine-Mesa Nov. 3 in Prescott, and they fell to UC Merced Oct. 6 in Prescott. Marymount topped Embry-Riddle Sept. 29 in California.

With Saturday’s setback, Embry-Riddle was eliminated from NAIA national tournament contention. UC Merced, which won the Cal Pac’s regular-season conference crown, and Marymount are heading to nationals.

Nationals starts Saturday, Nov. 17, at campus sites across the country. The tourney then moves to Orange County Great Park Soccer Stadium, where it will be played from Monday, Nov. 26, through Saturday, Dec. 1, in Irvine, California.

Embry-Riddle concluded its 2018 season with a 12-7-1 record. Marymount California, which received votes in the latest NAIA poll and has now won 10 straight matches, improved to 13-4-3.

UC Merced (13-4-2) also garnered votes in the latest NAIA poll.
