Prescott girls cross-country claims section title, boys 2nd
The Prescott boys and girls cross-country teams had a big day this past Friday where they ran in the division three section four races with hopes of qualifying both teams for the state championships.
First on the girl’s side, the Badgers were able to run to a first place finish with a team total of 75 points, behind strong individual performances and four medalists.
For the Badgers, junior Makenna Bray finished second on the day with a time of 19:36, junior Emily McMahon finished fourth with a time 20:26, sophomore Tea Castro finished 13th with a time of 21:11 and Michelle Parent finished 14th with a time of 21:12.
The Badgers boys’ team also produced a good performance taking second place overall in Friday’s event with a total team score of 86 points, finishing only behind No. 1 seed Page who totaled 17 points.
The boy’s team was also successful in producing a medalist with junior Alec Almendarez finishing seventh with a time of 16:59.
With both teams finishing in the top two spots, the Badgers solidified their spots in the 2018 State Cross-Country Championships, where the girl’s team comes in ranked second and the boy’s team ranks fourth.
The teams will be headed to Cave Creek Golf Course this Saturday, Nov. 10, where festivities will begin at 7 a.m. for packet pickup and the first race beginning at 8:30 a.m.
