Local business women Vickie Sheridan and Leah Gosik were among those honored at the 47th annual meeting of the Yavapai College Foundation held on May 9.
Sheridan, the owner of Framer’s Market & Gallery, received the YC Foundation’s Philanthropy Award in recognition of her ongoing commitment to student success with her support of the Del E. Webb Family Enrichment Center.
Gosik, the owner of Bella by Leah and a 2013 graduate of Yavapai College, received the Prescott campus President’s Outstanding Alumni Award.
Others recognized for their outstanding service included Mitchell Pietz, technical director for the Yavapai College Performing Arts Center, Judy Egan, member of the YC Foundation board of directors and the IamYC student philanthropy club.
“Over the years these honorees have typified and promoted the educational mission of Yavapai College with their time, creativity and philanthropy,” said Paul Kirchgraber, executive director of the Yavapai College Foundation.
“Their efforts have helped make it possible for students to achieve their dream of a college education.”
The Foundation also elected three new board members to include Diane Drexler, Chief Nursing Officer at Yavapai Regional Medical Center, Diane Joens, former mayor of Cottonwood and Stephanie Purinton, owner of Bella Vita Healthcare locate in Cottonwood.
President of the board of directors, Don Michelman, reported that during the past year, board members, staff and volunteers raised nearly $1 million in public support and have increased the number of named student scholarships to 225, which represents the second largest number of scholarships of all Arizona Community Colleges.
Total funds held by the Foundation have increased to $14.6 million. Since beginning an endowment campaign in 2009, YCF has increased its endowed assets from $5.9 million to $12 million.
Since 1972 the Yavapai College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, has supported Yavapai College in fulfilling its mission to provide high quality, cost effective education.
