Craigslist contact leads to theft

A woman recently reported to the Prescott Valley Police Department that she had given an unknown man $1,500 for a vehicle she had found for sale on Craigslist, according to a news release from the department.

She stated the vehicle, a blue 2011 Ford Taurus 4DSD, was listed for sale on Craigslist and in the parking lot of Tractor Supply, 8340 Eastridge Drive, she met a man who she described as black, expecting to buy the car.

They entered the Walmart at 3450 Glassford Hill Road to buy paper to make a contract, which, she said, was going to be for $1,500 with monthly payments. She said the man put the name of Jeffrey Maudan on the contract and signed it, but when they were completing the ADOT MVD form, he said he needed to get the Vehicle Identification Number.

She said he left the store and never returned.

According to the Prescott Valley Police Department, the Walmart surveillance tape indicated the Ford Taurus had an Arizona license plate with the last two numbers of 27.
