Letter: Save the Dells
The Grand Canyon – my favorite place to visit – repeatedly. Having seen amazing natural wonders around the world, that says a lot about Arizona’s unique spot on Earth, a place deserving of the eternal protection bestowed on the canyon.
While Arizona has the Grand Canyon, Prescott has a unique natural wonder as deserving as the canyon of permanent protection, Prescott’s Grand Canyon – the Granite Dells. It is rare to find such a wonder and so close to a town, making it all the more important to protect the Dells for everyone always.
Not to be forgotten the Dells are an attraction for our area, adding tourism money to Prescott’s economy, not just for the time being but for always.
Prescott’s council must act to prevent construction in the Dells. It’s a great responsibility to ensure the Dells will maintain their natural state. Our politicians must demonstrate their understanding of how important the Dells are in a natural state to Prescottonians and everyone that comes the Dells way, today and tomorrow.
Development need not and should not occur in a place as unique as any on the planet. I ask our town council and everyone involved in determining the future of the Dells to act on the side of caution rather than look back in hindsight and realize they were responsible for an irreparable tragedy. Think of the Dells as a priceless irreplaceable masterpiece painting. No one would suggest chopping that painting up for sale in bits and pieces.
