Virginia (Virgie) Daniels Olvera

Virginia (Virgie) Daniels Olvera, 79, began her journey to Heaven on June 17, 2018. Virgie passed away at her Chino Valley home surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born to Tranquilino and Soledad Daniels in Prescott, Arizona.

Virgie was a loving and caring Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandma, and Sister. She is survived by: her husband of 60 years, Tony; her children, Shirley (Bob) Hutchison, Margaret (Robert) Delgado, and Jose (Michelle) Olvera; sisters, Martha and Vicki, and brother, Tommy; seven grandchildren, six great-grandkids, and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alex; and daughter, Sharon.

Virgie had a passion for sports, such as playing softball, volleyball and basketball. Her greatest love was dancing and shopping. While living in Prescott, she always offered a heart of gold to everyone and their needs. Virgie participated in church activities, such as the Fiesta Committee, Camp Retreats and Cursillos.

Virgie’s passion for cooking made her the “Best in the West” (if you ask her family and friends) and led her to begin the hot lunch program for Sacred Heart students for many years. Virgie cooked and baked cakes for private parties and weddings. She became well known for her tamale making. She made them for several restaurants in town. Her tamales will be missed.

When she moved to Chino Valley, Virgie got involved with St. Catherine Labouré Church. She became a member of the Ladies group. She helped with the various fundraisers and Arts and Craft Show, she made her famous tamales to sell and helped with planning of Thanksgiving food boxes for needy families she enjoyed planning for Christmas for needy families, purchasing gifts for the children and food for their family.

Virgie enjoyed watching her grandkids play sports, like soccer, wrestling, basketball and watching choir performances. It brought great joy to her to be able to watch the great-grandchildren cheerleading and soccer games. She enjoyed going out in the woods for picnics and camping with her family. She also enjoyed taking rides to Bagdad, to see her grandkids, and watching the seasons change.

Being around family and friends brought great joy and happiness to her life.

Services as follows: Saturday, June 30, 2018, at St. Catherine Labouré Church, 2062 N. Highway 89, Chino Valley, Arizona. Rosary at 10 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m., and Burial at the Chino Valley Cemetery.
