Letter: Good call

Editor:

Thank you for highlighting the absurdity of not closing the Prescott National Forest under the current conditions! A “decrease in illegal fires,” as stated by the PNF, seems to fly in the face of the “one less spark, one less fire” convention.

Given that the neighboring forests are closed, it will only serve to drive more people to the PNF; exponentially increasing the risk of a wildland disaster!

Thousands of acres of the PNF have already been burned by careless behavior and a rational, preservationist approach should be taken toward protecting what is left!

In the Crown King area, multiple illegal and abandoned camp fires are found each week. In the Black Canyon City and Bumble Bee areas, target shooting can be heard on a daily basis; having already caused significant wildland fire damage in the past two fire seasons. Where is the enforcement and when will people get that their selfish behavior can cause those that live in the wildland interface to lose everything that they have?

We only get to enjoy our public lands for as long as it takes for somebody to do something stupid!
