Roadwork in Brief: 89 Widening/Roundabout Construction, Dexter Neighborhood, Rosser Street and more

89 Widening, Roundabout Construction

The City of Prescott and their contractor, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Inc., are currently working on a road and utility upgrade project along State Route 89. The project limits include State Route 89 between the State Route 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells.

Improvements include the widening of State Route 89, water and sewer utility upgrades, removing and replacing the existing asphaltic concrete, and construction of a new roundabout near the Phippen Museum. The project also includes a new parking area for access to the City’s Constellation Trail System.

 Once complete, this project will increase traffic flow by widening the existing two-lane roadway to four lanes, enhance road user safety, and upgrade utilities that serve the Prescott community. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2018.

Highway 89 — With the new bronze statue successfully installed in the new roundabout, crews will continue performing miscellaneous clean-up activities along State Route 89 between the State Route 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells. Be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, June 4-9, one lane of traffic will remain open in both directions at all times, however, motorists are asked to please be aware of lane restrictions, reduced speeds, flaggers, and heavy equipment accessing the work zone.

Trailhead — The Constellation Trailhead parking lot is now fully accessible. Trail users are asked to follow marked signage, respect the work zone, and take precaution when hiking near construction personnel and equipment.

Phippen — The Phippen Museum is open during construction activities, however, access to the museum changes on a day-to-day basis. Museum visitors are asked to follow the marked signage, respect the work zone, and take precaution when near construction personnel and equipment. 

Dexter Neighborhood

The City of Prescott and their contractor, Capital Improvements, LLC, are currently working on a road and utility upgrade project along select streets in the Dexter Neighborhood. The project consists of replacing undersized water and sewer main lines, road improvements, and installing new water service connections for residents. In addition to this work, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway replacements will be performed as needed.

This project is part of an ongoing program to replace deteriorated and undersized main lines within the City utility system. Once complete, these upgrades will increase service reliability and main line capacity for the Dexter Neighborhood and surrounding areas. Project completion is scheduled for spring 2018.

Bird Street — In preparation for asphalt paving operations, crews will be removing the existing asphalt and preparing the subgrade along Bird Street from West Hillside Avenue to just north of West Merritt Avenue. Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 4-8, Bird Street will be closed to through traffic in the work zone, however, personnel will accommodate access for residents. Please remain alert for reduced speeds, rough roads, and flaggers in the work zone.

Sonora Drive — Crews will continue installing new water main along Sonora Drive throughout the week. Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 4-8, Sonora Drive will be closed to through traffic in the work zone, however, personnel will accommodate access for residents. Please remain alert for reduced speeds, rough roads, and flaggers in the work zone.

Comfort Avenue — Crews will continue performing concrete work along Comfort Avenue, from Lincoln Avenue to Campbell Street, throughout the week. Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 4-8, Comfort Avenue will be closed to through traffic in the work zone, however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents. Please remain alert for parking restrictions, reduced speeds, rough roads, and flaggers in the work zone.

Ruth Street — Crews will continue the process of tying the newly installed lateral service lines into private connections along Ruth Street from West Hillside Avenue to Whipple Street. Residents receiving cross-lot connections will be contacted by the contractor prior to any construction activities on the property. Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 4-8, Ruth Street will

be temporarily open to through traffic, however, motorists are reminded that this is an active work zone and to be aware of rough roads, heavy equipment, and to use an alternate route if possible.

Asphalt paving operations are now complete along Dameron Drive, from West Hillside Avenue to Whipple Street. With this work complete, crews will be performing water service connection work throughout the week. Asphalt paving operations along Lincoln Avenue, from West Merritt Avenue to Whipple Street, and Campbell Street, from West Merritt Avenue to West Hillside Avenue, are now complete. Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 4-8, Dameron Drive, Lincoln Avenue, and Campbell Street will be temporarily open to through traffic, however, motorists are reminded that this is an active work zone and to be aware of rough roads, heavy equipment, and to use an alternate route if possible.

Utilities — The process of tying the newly installed lateral service lines into private connections has begun. Please be aware that temporary water shut offs will be required to perform this work. Affected businesses and residents will be notified at least 48-hours in advance of any temporary utility interruptions.

Rosser Street

The City of Prescott and their contractor, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Inc., are currently working on a road and infrastructure reconstruction project along Rosser Street. The project consists of removing and replacing the existing paved surface with new asphalt pavement and reconstruction of a detention basin at the corner of West Rosser Street and Campbell Avenue. Additionally, new sidewalk, curb and gutter, and driveway entrances will be replaced as needed. The project extents include Rosser Street from Campbell Avenue to just east of Eagle View Drive.

 Once complete, this project will relieve stormwater runoff in areas surrounding the detention basin and provide a smoother, quieter ride for road users. The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2018.

The third segment of road reconstruction along Rosser Street, from Prescott View Place to Campbell Avenue, will continue throughout the week with crews performing asphalt milling operations and excavating the existing roadway. Please be aware of the following impacts: from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 4-8, one lane of traffic will remain open at all times, however, motorists may encounter lane restrictions, reduced speeds, rough road conditions, and flagging operations throughout the work zone. Motorists should allow for extra time to get through the area and use an alternate route if possible.
