As an annual tribute to that majestic, loyal and hardworking companion of all mankind — the horse — the Phippen Museum once again presents its popular Hold Your Horses! Invitational Exhibition and Sale from Aug. 4 through Sept. 23 in the Marley Gallery.
An opening reception and members’ preview takes place at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, with members admitted free and guests for $10. A cash bar and butler-passed hors d’oeuvres by Goods from the Garden will be provided.
The exhibit is focused entirely on one of the most resilient, steadfast and dependable of animals, and features outstanding equine artwork for sale by some of the nation’s top Western artists – and some local artists, too.
This year’s exhibition features Western artist Sheila Cottrell, who won the People’s Choice award in 2017 for her 24 inch by 20 inch oil painting, “Packing into the White Mountains.”
Participating with Cottrell this year are 42 outstanding artists known for their art of the horse. Each artist will display several pieces of museum-quality fine art for sale during the show. This presentation promises to be another successful event at the Phippen.
