Joyce Marie (Sabo) Gibson

Joyce Marie (Sabo) Gibson passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, after a brave battle against cancer.

Joyce was quick to laugh, smart, generous, committed to living a healthy life, and fiercely proud of her husband, sons and grandchildren.

Joyce was born in Kimberly, British Columbia, on Aug. 17, 1947, and she lived in Tucson, Arizona; Durango, Colorado; Ventura, California; and, most recently, in Prescott, Arizona.

She was a hard worker, a trait admired and inherited by her sons. She was also a wonderful cook – her sons can’t eat apple pie without comparing it to hers. She was known for her way with animals, and throughout her life, she shared her home with at least one adored dog.

Joyce loved and was well-loved by Ralph Gibson, her husband and partner in life, who shared her passion for fitness and enjoyed trying to keep up with her.

For Joyce, any day spent with her family was a joy. Her son, Justin White, is a wildlife biologist, who lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, with his wife, Kathleen, and their children, Daniel (20) and Brianna (16). Her son, Jed White, is a lawyer, who lives in Los Angeles, California, with his wife, Julie, and their daughter, Sadie (8). Jed and Justin continue to be inspired by Joyce’s strength and confidence, and she lives on in her grandchildren, each of whom delighted in her unconditional love and sense of fun. She is also survived by her mother, Betty Alexander; her three brothers, Jack Sabo, Danny Sabo, and Gerry Sabo; her two sisters, Kathy Weller and Debbie McCabe; her stepson, George Gibson and her grandson, Pryor Gibson; her stepdaughter, Lisa Gibson; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and friends who keenly feel her loss. She was preceded in death by her sister, Diane, and her father, Jack Alexander.

Joyce’s ashes were interred at Prescott National Cemetery.
