Obituary: Nancy Cummins
Nancy Cummins, born Nov. 10, 1929, passed away on June 10, 2018, was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend.
Nan was a lucky lady; she found the love of her life at 16 and never let go. Sixty-four years she had with the man of her dreams before he was called home.
They brought up their family in Jackson, Michigan, where she did income taxes for over 800 of her friends and neighbors. Dick and Nan retired to Leesburg, Florida, in 1994 where Nan’s zest for life quickly made them another 200+ friends. When once I asked her if she felt old now “retired” in a community retirement village, she replied “Old? We don’t have time to grow old here; there’s way too much to do!” And then she went on to list the dozen engagements she and Dad were attending that week.
They loved spending time with their family, friends, church, volunteering, the symphony and traveling.
They traveled extensively together, even spending six weeks cruising all over Alaska in the truck Dad modified with bunks, camping and cooking equipment. Mom definitely shared her math gene with some of us. She was always brilliant with numbers, even late into her 80s she loved showing off her memory and math skills. She could still quote her first phone number and that of everyone she knew and loved.
She will be missed by many, a unique and loving lady who loved chocolate about as much as us. I think we won by a slight margin, at least on most days. She taught us all about compassion, giving and baking. She was a bright light to many. Thank you, Mom, for all the many blessings you shared with us.
Nan is left by her four children and their spouses, four grandchildren and one spouse, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and grand/great-grandnieces and nephews. Along with so many dear friends, she cherished you all. May she Rest In Peace with our Dad and our Father in heaven.
