Men face charges in fatal shootout involving Tucson robbery
TUCSON (AP) — Tucson police say two men face charges in a January shootout in which a man was killed when his adult son confronted an armed robbery suspect.
Police said 26-year-old Ariel Montes-Deoca and 22-year-old Hector J. Molina were already in jail on other charges when they were identified and charged with murder and other crimes in the Jan. 6 killing of 61-year-old Anthony Quintela.
Quintela was fatally shot when his armed son exchange gunfire with a suspect leaving the store.
Police: Man held in fatal tire-iron beating of woman
PHOENIX (AP) — Phoenix police say a 27-year-old man is in custody in the fatal beating of a woman with a tire iron behind a shopping center.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson said the 26-year-old woman killed Saturday and the man were in a relationship at some point but that it wasn’t clear whether it was still ongoing. Identities weren’t released.
Thompson said police responding to a 911 call by a witness found the woman incapacitated. She was provided aid but died.
Thompson said officers used a shotgun to fire multiple pellet-filled bags to force the surrender of the man, who was holding a tire iron and walking away.
The location is near North 35th Avenue and West Bethany Home Road.
