Letters: Paper straws

Paper straws

Editor:

I am trying to reduce my drinking straw usage to help cut down on the plastic refuse that is making its way into our oceans where animals eat the small bits of plastic and die or live long enough that we eat the fish with the plastic chemicals in their flesh.

Years ago we only had paper straws. Why can’t we go back to paper straws? Give customers straws only upon request. Charge for paper straws if they cost more to manufacture thus cost more for the business. Killing our ocean animal food resources, which feed more people than land animals, is going to be far more expensive before it disappears altogether.
