Obituary: Susan Lorenzen

Susan Lorenzen, 75, of Prescott Valley Ariz., passed away on Jan. 3, 2018, after a short battle with cancer.

Susan was born in San Francisco, and spent her teenage years in Garberville, Calif., where her parents owned and ran the White Motel. After starting out at Humboldt State University in Arcata, Calif., she met Niels Lorenzen while out square dancing during her first year at Humboldt State, and settled down in Ferndale, Calif., where she raised four children. During that time she was active in the Danish Lodges, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, and a leader of both Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She also went back to school and got her accounting degree and became a CPA.

After leaving Ferndale, Susan worked in the Central Valley for several years before returning to her native San Francisco, where she worked as the controller for the Crocker Family until her retirement in 2010. She then moved to Prescott Valley, Ariz. She was a lifelong member of the Eastern Star and served as Matron on several occasions. She was active in her local churches, her last was Emmanuel Lutheran in Prescott Valley.

Susan is survived by her sister, Shirley Williams; four children, Cindy Hansen, Jim Lorenzen, Christine Kenworthy and Deborah Lorenzen; 7 grandchildren, Pete Hansen, Karly, Megan and Mathew Lorenzen, Laure, Niels Andreas and Helene Lorenzen,; and one great-grandchild, Delores Ingeborg Hansen, who she had the joy of meeting at Delores’ baptism this Fall in South Dakota.

The family will hold a private service in San Francisco this Spring.
