Letter: Taxes hurt

I think all voters should know more about the Prescott bed tax. Council members, reporters and others have referred to the “motel tax,” a transient tax or a tourist piece of revenue.

The truth is — the lame, the deaf, and the blind who can no longer live alone have moved to senior adult complexes that are “for profit.” We have paid the 2 percent bed tax for years. January finds us charged 2.75 percent tax added to our apartment and garage rent. Quite a hike!

Non-profit organizations such as federal housing and church affiliated organizations are excluded.

The poor old fools who saved for their retirement are up a creek — again!
