Elks Opera House Guild celebrates 10th anniversary
The Elks Opera House Guild celebrated its 10th anniversary this past month at the Elks Theater and Performing Arts Center.
The Guild is a voluntary organization that is dedicated to preserve, promote and support the Elks Theater with services that include: ticket sales, safety/security, ushering and will call at all performances.
Volunteer services also include ticket sales and tours Tuesday through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guild docents perform these services in period costumes dating from 1864, when President Lincoln declared Prescott the Territorial Capital of Arizona through 1912, when Arizona became the 58th State in the Union.
Costumes are worn by Elks Theater Docents to honor our “historic Prescott treasure” that was established in 1905 and restored to its original splendor in 2010. Volunteer hours reached a high of 5,331 hours in 2018 and are expected to be even greater in 2019, as the venue grows with great tribute shows, community events and movies.
The 2018 Elisabeth F. Ruffner Service Award was presented at the Anniversary Party to Guild member Nancy Lambert. Nancy volunteers at the theater every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and has donated more than 1,300 hours of time and talent to The Elks Theater.
