Obituary: Phyllis ‘Phyl’ Collette
Phyllis “Phyl” Collette, 91, peacefully passed away on Dec. 15, 2018, at her residence in the Brookdale Assisted Living Community in Prescott, Arizona.
Phyl had been a member of the Brookdale community for five months following the death of her husband, Larry, in May 2018. She was 17 years old when she met Larry during his service in the U.S. Navy during WWII while his ship was being serviced at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California. They were married for more than 71 years.
She is survived by their only child, Sherri Maghrak (Larry); granddaughter, Diana Hensley (Eric); grandson, Greg Rich (Joann); great-grandson, Dillon Hensley; great-grandson, Nathan Rich; sister, Gwen Catlett; nieces and nephews, and many friends in Prescott Valley.
She was a dedicated wife and mother who enjoyed bowling, photography, reading and square dancing in her youth.
Larry and Phyl relocated to Prescott Valley in 2002 to be close to friends made while in Pollock Pines, California. She was a loving grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed reading and card making. She made many friends at the Pendleton Center where she participated in rehabilitation exercises following heart surgery.
The family is grateful to those Brookdale residents who befriended Phyl during her residence there. The family is grateful for the care provided by the Brookdale staff in Prescott.
