RWOP honors Prescott-area veterans
Republican Women of Prescott were pleased to honor 155 Veterans at the Prescott Resort on Monday, Nov. 12 with a free lunch and ceremony thanking them for their service. The November RWOP meeting was a complete sell-out enjoyed by 465 members and friends.
The meeting opened with the Posting of the Colors by the ERAU ROTC Color Guard and was followed by the MIA Table Presentation and Poem by Maxine Dillahunty. Prescott dignitaries Mayor Greg Mengarelli, AZ Dept. of Economic Security Manager Patrick Kuykendall and ERAU Veteran Program Head John Markham each spoke on various programs developed to aid our local veterans of all ages.
The featured speaker was Tammie Stiles-Welter, Commander, VFW Post 1796 from Black Canyon City, AZ. She related experiences as a career officer and the challenges of working in a male-dominated profession. Tales from her 27-year career in the United States Army included numerous deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq where she was awarded the Purple Heart on three separate occasions.
The luncheon ended on a high note with a generous donation to local veteran groups energized by RWOP’s Caring for America program and a collection of 12 huge boxes of toys for the U. S. Marine Corp Reserves’ annual Toys for Tots Program.
