Burglars hit cars in Castle Canyon
At least two unlocked vehicles in the Castle Canyon area of Prescott Valley were broken into overnight between Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 17-18, and others may be unreported, according to a news release from Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office.
In the 3400 block of Starlight Drive, a phone charger and iPad stolen were stolen from one vehicle, and the other — located on the 3000 block of Date Creek Drive — was ransacked but nothing was missing. The second car’s owner explained she leaves her keys in the car and was glad the car was not stolen, the YCSO reported.
Thieves use the cover of darkness during early morning hours to go from house to house and enter unlocked vehicles and YCSO has urged residents to lock their vehicle every time it is left unattended even if it’s in the owner’s driveway.
“Victims in the past have lost firearms, jewelry, computers, family keepsakes, etc. during burglaries which could have been prevented by simply locking the vehicle,” YCSO Media Relations Coordinator Dwight D’Evelyn said. “At the very least, remove valuables when the vehicle is parked unattended.”
