Bears soccer cruises to 4th straight victory

GLENDALE — This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Bradshaw Mountain’s girls’ soccer team.
However, five games into the 2018-19 season, the Bears’ talented, young group may be thinking otherwise.
Behind star sophomore attacker Hailey Denman’s second straight hat trick, Bradshaw Mountain extended its winning streak to four matches since it lost its season opener Nov. 27 at Arcadia, bruising Cactus, 11-1, in a 4A clash Thursday, Dec. 13.
The Bears of the Grand Canyon region, who have outscored their last four opponents by a combined 26-2, upped their record to 4-1-0, while the Cobras of the West Valley region dipped to 2-2.
“The girls were firing on all cylinders,” Bradshaw Mountain coach John Sterling said. “We played our game very well.”
Denman on Thursday scored five goals and added an assist. On Tuesday, Dec. 11, Denman tallied four goals and an assist in the Bears’ 6-1 victory over St. Mary’s, although three of her goals came in a lopsided second half.
Against Cactus, Bradshaw Mountain’s Sarah Hacker followed Denman with two goals and an assist. Alexis Clynes aided in the effort with two goals, and freshman Bria Coleman had a goal and two assists. Julien Sarno also scored a goal.
Bradshaw Mountain plays host to struggling Deer Valley (0-2 record in power-point matches) at 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.
Cactus competes in the Chandler Prep Girls’ Soccer Invite, which starts Friday, Dec. 14, at Quail Run Park in Mesa. The Cobras take on McClintock (2-2) at 2 p.m. and Coolidge (0-3) at 5 p.m.
