Darlene Alice Leatherman, 75, of Mayer, Arizona, passed away on Nov. 22, 2018, in Prescott, Arizona.
A family memorial was held in Mayer, Arizona, with a graveside service to be held on Dec. 10 at 3 p.m., at the National Veterans Cemetery in Prescott Valley, Arizona, where her eternal resting place will be next to her husband of over 50 years.
She was born in Gladwin, Michigan, on Aug. 19, 1943, the daughter of Delmer and Daisybelle (Koons) Weldon. On July 25, 1964, she married Victor Leatherman of Traverse City, Michigan, and they had two children whom she adored.
Darlene grew up in Gladwin. She contracted polio at the age of 9, just one year prior to the release of the polio vaccine. She never let her disabilities from polio slow her down and always had an upbeat attitude, even as her health declined in her later years. Darlene and Vic lived in Traverse City, Michigan, until they settled in Arizona in 1979. Darlene attended Ferris State College and was Director of Medical Records at hospitals in Arizona until she retired.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her son, Russ Leatherman of Traverse City, Michigan; father, Delmer Weldon of Gladwin, Michigan; brothers, Duane (Marjory) Weldon of Lansing, Michigan, and Timothy (Jane) Weldon of Frostproof, Florida; and sister, Terry (Peter) Koch of Waco, Texas; her grandchildren, J.T. (Tiffney) Bennett, Amber (Zachary) McCabe, Catherine Bennett and Dalton Leatherman, as well as eight precious great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Leatherman; daughter, Cheryl Bennett; and mother, Daisybelle Weldon.
Memorials may be made in her honor to the March of Dimes.
