Letter: It took me 2 minutes

Editor:

Why do you publish letters to the editors with false information? To wit: Kirby Hughes wrote that over a million people die in road crashes with 20-50 million injured. Those numbers shocked me so much that I looked them up. According to the National Safety Council, there were 40,100 people killed in road deaths, with another 4.57 million injured.

I did find a headline using the numbers shown by Kirby, so I can “kind of” see why he said that. The post quoted on a Google search I did was from Facebook and no longer exists. I’m sure it was removed because of the false information.

While I laud Mr. Kirby’s intent, I really would like it if the staff of The Daily Courier would be more attentive to fact checking reader’s letters. In this day and age of fake news, it would be nice to make sure of facts before publishing. It took me 2 minutes.
