WICKENBURG — Chino Valley boys’ cross-country runner Lane Evens won the Wickenburg Multi on Wednesday, Aug. 29, gaining the lead about halfway through the race and never looking back.
Evens crossed the finish line in 19 minutes and 29 seconds to lead the Cougars boys to a first-place finish with 20 points. Bradshaw Mountain finished second with 50 points and Wickenburg was third with 65 points.
The Cougars dominated, as Jake Davis placed second (20:29) and Phoenix Swiacki was third (20:30). Austin Crowder was fifth (21:26) and Auggie Grandy claimed ninth (22:14). Dillon Eisner was 10th (22:29) and Steven Johns nabbed 11th (22:34).
Chino Valley’s girls also won their race, notching 15 points. The Cougars were led by Emmeline Metz, who placed second in 26:39. Leslie Estrada was third (26:50) and Nayeli Saldaña finished fourth (26:53).
Claudia Gomez followed in fifth (28:43) and Lizzy Tupper was seventh (31:08). Michelle Bedolla crossed in eighth (33:31) and Alex Thieme was 10th (41:02).
The Cougars will run at the annual Territorial Days at 7:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, in Chino Valley.
