Records: Prescott (0-1, 0-0 Grand Canyon); Canyon Del Oro (0-1, 0-0 Kino)
Last Week: Prescott – The Badgers struggled defensively in the second half to stop Desert Edge in a 40-17 loss to the Scorpions in Week 1, allowing Milton Rodgers to score a touchdown on 186 yards rushing; Canyon Del Oro – Stevie Rocker ran 19 times for 173 yards and three touchdowns but the Dorados came up short in a tight 38-37 loss to cross-town rival Flowing Wells in Week 1. Hosting the Badgers in Week 2 is Canyon Del Oro’s home opener.
Last Meeting: Canyon Del Oro 54, Prescott 21 (Nov. 14, 2008, in Tucson, Ariz.)
The Setting: Coming off a 40-17 loss to Desert Edge a week ago, third-year coach Michael Gilpin and the Badgers will be looking to even their record at 1-1, but face a tough task in a Canyon Del Oro club that like to get up and down the field offensively, averaging nearly 30 points per game in 2017. Prescott has not started a season 0-2 since the 2010 campaign when they lost back-to-back games against Mingus (40-6) and Bradshaw Mountain (49-6) to open the season. It was Lou Beneitone’s last season on the sidelines.
Players to Watch: Prescott — QB Austin Clark, Sr.; RB Silas Espitia, Jr.; SS Colton Amos, Sr.; DE/TE Aaron Greene, Jr.; Canyon Del Oro — RB Stevie Rocker, So.; KR Jose Cruz, Sr.; QB Zachary Eidenschink, Sr.
Weather Forecast: 81 degrees at kickoff, partly cloudy, 7 mph SW, Sunset at 6:58 p.m.
