PRESCOTT VALLEY — The Grand Canyon Media Football Poll for Week 2 was released Wednesday afternoon, with Bradshaw Mountain holding strong at the No. 1 position.
The Bears won their season opener for the first time in five years Aug. 17, defeating Estrella Foothills 20-13 after quarterback Austin Gonzales threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for 132 yards in the win.
Bradshaw Mountain (1-0, 0-0 Grand Canyon) earned 71 total points, including five first-place votes.
Mingus, missing out on the top spot for the second straight week by just one point (70), beat Combs 53-14. The Marauders finished with six first-place votes, one more than the Bears.
After Prescott’s 40-17 loss to former 5A power Desert Edge last week, the Badgers came in at third with 54 points and recieved no first-place votes after earning two in the preseason poll.
Flagstaff held strong at No. 4 in the poll, despite not playing a game during a Week 1 bye week, while Lee Williams lost to an underwhelming Lake Havasu club, 34-14.
The Volunteers tied for fifth with Mohave in the media poll.
This week, Coconino and Flagstaff open their 2018 season at home. The Panthers host Thunderbird and the Eagles will face Glendale on Friday night. Kickoff for both games is set for 7 p.m.
As for Prescott and Bradshaw Mountain, the Badgers hit the road to face Canyon Del Oro on Friday, while the Bears travel south to Phoenix and will play Shadow Mountain. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
