Letter: Large animal evacuation and shelter

Editor:

It’s important to sign up for Code Red to get announcements of wildfires and emergencies. It’s also easy. Go to the County Sheriff’s website at ycsoaz.gov and click on Code Red Sign Up on the home page or call the Sheriff at 928-771-3260 and they will help sign you up. When you finish reading this, why not do it and be done?

Large animals have a shelter at the Old Fairgrounds near Highway 89 and Fain Road. There are indoor pens, water hay and vets to assist.

It takes longer to get a truck, trailer and horse ready to roll. Really get ready at the “Ready” alert. For large animal owners, self-evacuate when the “Set” announcement is made. You should be well on your way when the “Go” announcement is made.

Have a “buddy system” in place with neighbors so that if you are away or in town and can’t get back home through a fire line, there is someone who can help out.
