David William Kell, 61, of Prescott, Arizona, passed away on July 14, 2018. He was born on Jan. 9, 1957, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Dave graduated from Austin O’Brien High School in Edmonton, Alberta, and moved to Arizona in 1977.
David received both his Bachelor of Arts in English with an emphasis on creative writing and his Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of Arizona.
He married his wife, Jennifer Melcher, in 2008 and lived with his wife and son, “PJ” in Prescott, Arizona, where he practiced law as a county prosecutor and a criminal attorney from 2008 to 2018. In 2009, David received the Yavapai County award for outstanding misdemeanor prosecutor of the year and was a state finalist in this category. He loved all sports, especially golf and hockey.
David enjoyed hiking and spending quality time with his family and many friends. He was a devoted husband and father and active in the Prescott recovery community. Over the years, he helped many struggling with addiction to achieve long-term sobriety. David was a kind and loving man with a generous heart and soul. He will be greatly missed. Survivors include his wife of 10 years, Jennifer Kell; his son, Peter “PJ” Kell; his mother, Joan Smith; his father, William Kell; his sister, Deborah McKay (Bob); his sister, Joanne Kell; nieces, Tiffany Kell and Kala Mackay (Casey): great nieces, Ara Hall, Mila and London Mackay, along with many step-siblings, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother, Peter Kell; and step-father Jerry Smith.
Memorial Mass Service will be held at 10 a.m., on Aug. 25, at Sacred Heart Church in the gymnasium. A memorial service for the recovery community will be held at 2 p.m. at Safe Harbor on the same day.
