The driver of a Ford F-350 was arrested Monday night, Aug. 6, after the truck was rear-ended on Highway 89 and responding officers found a variety of illegal items in it while investigating the collision.
At about 8 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene near milepost 322, according to a Prescott Valley Police Department (PVPD) news release. A white Cadillac Escalade traveling west had slammed into the rear of the truck, which had stalled on the road with no lights on. The incident caused all of the westbound lanes to be temporarily shut down. Three occupants in the truck were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, including a 9-month-old child.
While investigating the accident, police discovered drugs, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded semi-automatic revolver with the serial number filed off in the truck, PVPD reported.
The officers responded to the hospital to speak with the driver of the truck, 41-year-old Armando Cabral. Cabral was subsequently arrested for the following felonies: being a prohibited possessor of a firearm, possessing of a defaced weapon, possessing a deadly weapon during a drug offense, and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, PVPD reported. He was transported and booked into the Yavapai County jail in Camp Verde.
Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the site of the collision to assist in clearing the roadway of debris, after which the highway was opened again for traffic.
“All occupants of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts, which prevented serious injuries,” said PVPD spokesperson Jerry Ferguson.
