Letter: Which Veterans are worthy of respect?

Editor:

While walking in the Prescott (Patriotic) 4th of July parade, I had the unique and unnerving experience of Political Correctness Veterans Respect. I was wearing my Vietnam Veteran ball cap and walking with the Democratic float. I handed out a piece of campaign literature (as were many other Republican candidates representatives) to an elderly gentleman sitting in a lawn chair and he asked, “Is he a Democrat?” I replied yes he is. He threw the piece to the ground and looked away from me in a very shunning manner. I’m left to believe that in this man’s eyes only Republican veterans are worthy of respect even though Democratic veterans take the same oath, bleed and die the same. I have to suspect many others share this sentiment given our current political climate. What a shameful state of the un-United States we have become. Are we really Republicans and Democrats before we are Americans? I am brethren, countryman and citizen. I served for your right to do things I disagree with!
