Mayer Area Meals on Wheels thoroughly understands that they couldn’t operate without the help of their many volunteers, not only those that deliver the meals, but the workers behind the scenes that keep everything else running. The management holds an annual luncheon to show their appreciation. This time isn’t just for the luncheon, as most of the volunteers are much too busy to stop and chat during their normal hours, so having the relaxing luncheon gives them a chance to get to know each other, talk about problems, and just enjoy the afternoon.
Christy Lambertus and Ashley Cochran were the cooks and caterers for the event, and made sure there were prizes along with the dinner with apple pie and ice cream dessert. Service awards were presented to Kaleb Cochran, Pat Hunt, Henry Larsen, Matt Magill, Ruth McNelly and Kevin vonMoses. Prizes were won by Barbara vonMoses, who won a hair cut from Ladies and Gents Styling, Matt Magill won a meal certificate from Sally Bees, and Ruth McNelly won a double picture frame for her desk.
Around 100 people rely on these volunteers for their “one good meal a day” being prepared and delivered. It couldn’t happen without their help. Have you volunteered for something this week?
