Obituary: Mickey Strauss

Mickey Strauss, a beloved citizen of Prescott, AZ, died peacefully in his sleep at age 91 on March 25, 2018, fulfilling his wish to die with his new wife and beloved pups by his side.

He, along with his deceased third wife Joni Strauss, was the founder and avid supporter of Safe Harbor, a 12-step clubhouse that is credited with changing hundreds, if not thousands, of lives for the better.

Mickey was certainly one of a kind, a wonderful story teller who was able to reach people on their level, but he was a raconteur without regrets and held on to his particular brand of feistiness until the end. In addition to his work with Safe Harbor, he was particularly proud of his service as a radarman on a “tin can” destroyer during WWII for which he earned his H.S. diploma for signing up to fight during his senior year. Immediately after the war, he married his childhood sweetheart, Cynthia Nathan (d. 1982), with whom he raised two children and with whom he came to his first 12-step meeting almost 50 years ago. He was honored to serve his family, providing for them in the best manner he knew how, and in ways that he had never known growing up. He taught us all much about life and how to give much back. He is survived by his son Brian Strauss and his wife Kelly and their children Spencer and Shane; his daughter Jami Hanreddy and her husband Joe and his daughter Amy and granddaughter Ellie; his best friend Rich Buffalin, without whom Safe Harbor could not have survived these last years; and his present wife and “soulmate” Trina Farrell Strauss.

A memorial service will be held for Mickey at Safe Harbor on April 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Homes. Please log on to www.ruffnerwakelin.com to sign Mickey’s guestbook and share a memory with the family
