Faculty and leadership honored “the heart and soul” of Yavapai College – students who have excelled in their respective academic and career fields.

Dr. Ron Liss, YC vice president for instruction and student development, said in his welcome remarks during the “Evening of Recognition” celebration at the YC Prescott campus: “Celebrating students who excel in some way or another is really the heart and soul of what we do.”

Capturing the evening’s highest honor – the President’s Award for Excellence — was pre-nursing student Carissa Bond.

“Ms. Bond is an ideal ambassador of all that is right at Yavapai College. She excels in academics, in service and community involvement, and in her personal and professional pursuits,” stated a letter YC Spanish Professor Curtis Kleinman wrote nominating Bond for the award.

Bond expressed pride in the recognition from her YC instructors. “It is really special to know that people support you. It is encouraging to know that the faculty is paying attention. It motivates you,” she said.

The Vice President’s Award for Academic Excellence went to Elizabeth Rizk, who was described as a “very motivated, talented and compassionate leader” with a love of learning. Rizk’s sister, Mary, was named Outstanding Student in Musical Theater.

Three YC Prescott campus students named to the All-Arizona Academic Team in 2018 were among the students feted last week. They are Megan Pickrel, Jimena Canchis and Anna Nardo.
