Letter: Save our Dells
I read the Sept. 15 article regarding Arizona Eco Development L.L.C.’s extensive proposed housing and resort project along the Peavine and Iron King trails with horror and disbelief. After visiting the above real estate development company’s website at arizonaecodev.com and viewing the project maps I was stunned. This proposed project would include a resort hotel and spa at the northeast corner of the intersection of the Peavine and Iron King trails. The Peavine Trail would have the resort hotel and spa alongside it, and the Iron King Trail would have the “hotel amenities” adjacent to it. Imagine hiking the Iron King Trail and seeing sunbathers and swimming pools. Although more likely a hiker would view the blank wall put in for the privacy of the guests.
In addition to the resort and spa, there would be a huge sprawl of single family residences on the west side of the Peavine Trail from a substantial distance south of this intersection all the way north to Centerpointe East Drive and beyond.
Anyone who has ever enjoyed walking, running, horseback riding, or bicycle riding on either of these trails should look carefully at the Granite Dells Ranch South Property project map at the above web address. There is a value far beyond pure economic considerations for this pristine, open land and rare Precambrian rock formations. In addition to the sheer unspoiled beauty that can presently be enjoyed by local residents as well as out-of-town visitors, the Dells provide shelter and food for countless native wildlife, including Pronghorn antelope.
Please let your council representatives know that you oppose this development.
