JuCo Volleyball: Roughriders spike Scottsdale, claim 4th-straight win

DeVries’ 14 kills, Hiapo’s 42 assists leads Yavapai

Nynke DeVries recorded 14 kills, Bailey Anderson hit a team-best .265 percent with 12 kills and the Yavapai College volleyball team won its fourth straight match with a 3-0 sweep over Scottsdale Community College on Wednesday night.

Kanani Hiapo chipped in with 42 assists and 10 digs for the Roughriders (10-8, 5-1 ACCAC), which recorded a .123 hitting percentage as a team and have swept their last three opponents.

Yavapai began the night with a 25-22 victory in game one and easily won game two (25-21) before the Artichokes put up a fight game three, but it was too little, too late as the Roughriders won 27-25 and earned the sweep.

Other standouts for Yavapai included Jailynn Butler, who had 10 kills, Victoria McCarty recorded a team-high 15 digs while Hannah Semon had 12 digs.

UP NEXT

Yavapai travels to Thatcher to play ACCAC foe Eastern Arizona College on Friday, Sept. 29. The Gila Monsters (15-6, 3-2 ACCAC) have won 12 straight matches.

The Roughriders defeated Eastern Arizona 3-2 back on Aug. 31. Official start time Friday is set for 7 p.m.

Scottsdale (10-5, 4-4 ACCAC) takes the short trip down Loop 101 Friday to play Mesa Community College with a start time of 7 p.m.
