YHS to offer discounted rabies vaccinations
Yavapai Humane Society will offer discounted rabies vaccinations for cats and dogs at its Spay/Neuter and Wellness Clinic from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29. YHS’ public clinic is located at 2989 E. Centerpointe Drive, Prescott, Arizona.
The discounted rabies vaccinations will be extended in honor of World Rabies Awareness — annually recognized at the end of September. On Sept. 29, rabies vaccinations will be just $10 for dogs and $20 for cats. No appointment is needed to take advantage of this public service, which is aimed at making the community and its domestic pets safer.
Dogs and cats must be over 12 weeks of age to receive a rabies vaccine.
While rabies is a disease that may seem uncommon, the myth of near-eradication is easy to dispel. Domestic animals constitute 8 percent of rabies cases, but are increasing at a rapid rate, according to the Journal of American Veterinary Medical Association. In fact, west of the Mississippi River, Arizona has more incidences of rabies per year than any other state.
