Reporter catches baseball one-handed during live broadcast in Houston
HOUSTON - A reporter broadcasting live caught a ball one-handed during the New York Mets, Houston Astros game Saturday.
SportsNet New York (SNY) reporter Steve Gelbs was reporting live from Minute Maid Park in Houston when the unexpected catch occurred.
He was telling viewers about how local residents were striving to overcome the disaster caused by Hurricane Harvey when Mets outfielder Juan Lagares stepped up to the plate and chopped a ball to the left side.
As the ball bounced over the dugout in his direction Gelbs casually snagged it in his bare left hand and continued his report, pausing only for a moment to explain, "I just caught the baseball, that's what you hear in the background."
Gelbs then tossed the ball to fans in the crowd.
After the game Gelbs tweeted, "Happy I was able to make the play earlier. Happier I was able to tell the stories of the inspirational people of Houston in the process."
