Talk on finding family history through online resources Oct. 28
Dick Hiatt, member of the Northern Arizona Genealogical Society, will speak on how to use Family History Research Wiki with genealogy searches at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the Family History Center at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints located at 1001 Ruth St.
Locating one’s ancestors involves research which seeks to place individuals in their specific place and time. Wiki is an online encyclopedia of worldwide genealogical sources which can be searched by place or topic. It will give resources available in an area, such as Yavapai County, where they are kept, what is in that collection, and a link to that collection if it is available online.
This resources is available for beginners just starting their family tree as well as research techniques for those hard-to-find family members. Hiatt will use a case study to demonstrate how to access resources for information.
The general meeting begins at 2 p.m., after a social gathering at 1:30. The NAGS meeting is free and open to the public. Please park in the back lot and enter through the big double doors at the rear of the building.
