Roadwork in Brief: 89 widening, Dexter, Marina, Sundog

The City of Prescott and its contractor, Asphalt Paving & Supply, Inc., are currently working on a road and utility upgrade project along Highway 89. The project limits include 89 between the Highway 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells. Improvements include the widening of 89, water and sewer utility upgrades, removing and replacing the existing asphalt concrete, and construction of a new roundabout near the Phippen Museum. The project also includes a new parking area for access to the city’s Constellation Trail System.

Once complete, this project will increase traffic flow by widening the existing two-lane roadway to four lanes, enhance road user safety, and upgrade utilities that serve the community. The project is scheduled for completion in spring 2018.

WIDENING CONTINUES — Box culvert extensions will continue throughout the week of Oct. 9 as road widening continues. In addition, crews will continue laying base course material for the new Constellation Trailhead parking lot, and installing new water line and storm drain near the future roundabout. Work will occur along 89 between the 89A/Pioneer Parkway interchange and Granite Dells.

Please be aware of the following impacts: Monday through Saturday, Oct. 9-14, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. One lane of traffic will remain open in both directions at all times, however, motorists are asked to please be aware of lane restrictions, reduced speeds, flaggers, and heavy equipment accessing the work zone.

TRAILHEAD ACCESS — Parking and access for the Constellation Trailhead remains unchanged at this time. Trail users are asked to respect the work zone and take precaution when hiking near construction personnel and equipment.

Dexter Neighborhood Road and Utility Upgrade

The City of Prescott and its contractor, Capital Improvements, LLC, are currently working on a road and utility upgrade project along select streets in the Dexter neighborhood. The project consists of replacing undersized water and sewer main lines, road improvements, and installing new water service connections for residents. In addition to this work, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and driveway replacements will be performed as needed.

This project is part of an ongoing program to replace deteriorated and undersized main lines within the city utility system. Once complete, these upgrades will increase service reliability and main line capacity for the Dexter neighborhood and surrounding areas. Project completion is scheduled for spring 2018.

WORK TO BEGIN ON BIRD STREET — Starting Monday, crews will begin saw cutting the roadway in preparation for new water main installation. Work will occur along Bird Street from Hillside Avenue to just north of West Merritt Avenue.

Please be aware of the following impacts: Monday through Friday, Oct. 9-13, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Motorists may encounter lane restrictions, reduced speeds, flaggers, and rough roads while driving through the project area.

South Marina Pavement and Utility Upgrade Project

The City of Prescott and Fann Contracting, Inc. are currently working on a road and utility upgrade project along South Marina Street. The project limits include South Marina Street between East Gurley Street and East Goodwin Street. Improvements include removing and replacing the deteriorated roadway with new asphalt pavement, water and sewer upgrades, and streetscaping, including new sidewalk, curb and gutter, landscape plantings, and installation of historic light fixtures.

Once complete, this project will upgrade utilities that serve the community, increase pedestrian access and safety, and provide a smoother, quieter ride for Downtown road users. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2017.

CONCRETE WORK PROGRESSES — Concrete work along the east side of South Marina Street is now complete. With this work finished, crews will begin installing new sidewalks, and curb and gutter on the west side of South Marina Street. In addition to this work, road grading operations will continue in preparation for new asphalt pavement along South Marina Street, from East Goodwin Street to East Gurley Street.

Please be aware of the following impacts: Monday through Friday, Oct. 9-13, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. South Marina Street is closed to through traffic from East Goodwin Street to East Gurley Street; however, personnel will accommodate access for local businesses and residents. Please remain alert for temporary sidewalk closures while work is underway.

Sundog Wastewater Treatment Plant

Prescott and Fann Contracting, Inc. are working on a utility upgrade project at the Sundog Wastewater Treatment Plant. The project includes construction of a wastewater lift station and installation of a new sewer main line. Once complete, the lift station will force wastewater through the main line to a junction structure located north of the Willow Lake Road Roundabout at Lillian Lane and Highway 89 (northwest corner).

This utility upgrade is the first of several phases to centralize wastewater collection and treatment throughout the municipal system. Once complete, the city’s wastewater utility system will be able to direct all sewage to the expanded Airport Water Reclamation Facility. This phase is scheduled for completion in winter 2018.

NIGHT WORK COMPLETE — Crews have finished installing new sewer main along 89 from the Willow Lake Road Roundabout to East Lillian Lane.

PAVING ONGOING — With new sewer main successfully installed, crews will continue asphalt paving operations along 89 from Prescott Lakes Parkway to East Lillian Lane.

Please be aware of the following impacts: Monday through Saturday, Oct. 9-14, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. One lane of traffic will remain open in both directions at all times, however, motorists are asked to please be aware of lane restrictions, reduced speeds, flaggers, and heavy equipment accessing the work zone. Crews will work to maintain traffic flow, but due to the nature of the work, motorists should expect delays.
