Claudio Orozco, Jack Gould and Levi Habecker each scored a pair of goals and the Prescott boys’ soccer team opened the 2017-18 campaign with an 8-2 rout over Youngker on Tuesday night.

It is the first win to begin a season since 2013 for Prescott, which recorded 30 shots on goal against the Roughriders and rallied behind a fast-paced offense implemented by first-year head coach Phil Reid in training camp.

“I think what I expected was a fast-paced game, faster than they are used to, for sure. I knew we would score,” Reid said.

Prescott (1-0, 0-0 Grand Canyon) has struggled on the soccer field in recent years, managing only six wins (6-31-1) in the previous three seasons. The last time a Badgers club finished above .500 came during the 2013-14 campaign (7-5-1), but they were 8-9 a year before.

Westen Tenney and Fernando Rodriguez also scored for Prescott, while goalkeeper Nathan Clay recorded three saves in the first half before being pulled to get other players some work between the posts.
