American Legion Post 135 from Cornville came to Mayer to post the colors and open the ceremonies of Veteran’s Appreciation Day on May 13 at the Mayer Harley Davidson dealer. Harley Davidson hosts this event once per year and involves many Legion posts as well as other groups that honor veterans.

In this case The Prescott Intertribal Warrior Society awarded their Warrior Medal of Valor to many veterans that had not yet received this medal. Lettie Irons-Connell was their spokesperson and explained how the medal originally started to honor Native Americans who served, but Master Sergeant Marshall Tall Eagle Soma had a dream of decorating all veterans with a medallion to show appreciation for their sacrifices.

Grand Canyon Harley Davidson also provided a pulled pork lunch along with raffles for prizes, making it a win-win event for the veterans.
