If you’re thinking about voting to approve the 0.75 percent sales tax increase to fund PSPRS, please consider the possible impact on local merchants. Prescott’s sales tax is at 8.35 percent. The 0.75 percent increase would bring it to 9.1 percent — perhaps just enough to convince many people to buy online, rather than locally. Our friendly local merchants already are under severe pressure from online vendors. Another sales tax increase could well put many local stores out of business.
