A social-media program in conjunction with National Travel and Tourism Week is planned in Prescott next week.
“Local businesses and employees are encouraged to thank visitors all week long during May 7-13, encourage even greater customer service and share favorite travel ideas in Prescott,” states a news release from the city.
Also, during the week, the Prescott Tourism Office will share impact numbers in terms of visitation to Prescott, visitor spending, and tax revenue generated.
On Monday May 8, the program will encourage different ways to get out and experience Prescott. Trivia Tuesday will offer well known and lesser-known facts about Prescott and the area. The week will continue with photos, tips for travel, impact numbers and more.
“Travel is a $2.3 trillion business in the U.S., with $990.3 billion in direct travel related spending in the U.S. by domestic and international visitors in 2016,” stated the news release.
Northern Arizona University (NAU) recently completed a visitor study, the news release stated, and some of the result highlights included: In 2014, $267 million in direct visitor spending produced a total economic impact of $340 million, including $100 million in labor income and $46 million in federal, state and local taxes.
The Prescott Visitor Center, which is located at the Chamber of Commerce offices at 117 W. Goodwin St., receives around 30,000 visits per year.
“National Travel & Tourism Week, and more locally, Arizona Travel and Tourism Week, is our chance to share with visitors and the community our gratitude for making Prescott a part of their travel plans,” said Prescott City Manager Michael Lamar.
He added: “We know as residents why Prescott is special, visitors find out every day of the year and as a community we reap the benefits from their vacations. We welcome everyone to experience Prescott and find out why so many people return year after year. Prescott is a destination we proudly invite all to experience.”
