Obituary: Adam (Stalnaker) Andrews

Adam (Stalnaker) Andrews died March 9, 2017. He was born May 24, 1972, to Helen Andrews Stalnaker and Dennis Andrews. Adam attended Thomas and Weitzel Elementary Schools, East Flagstaff Junior High and Coconino High School.

Adam began playing hockey at 9, with the Flagstaff Northstars and became an exceptional hockey player. He also played high school hockey in Anchorage, Alaska, and at Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota. Adam graduated from Alhambra High School, Phoenix, in 1998. He lived his senior year with his teammate, Eric Anderson and his family. He played competitive hockey with the Arizona’s only AAA midget team.

Adam played Junior A hockey in Michigan, with the Dearborn Magic, The Kalamazoo K-Wings and the Detroit Junior Redwings. He was an Allstar for the NAJHL. He played college hockey at Rochester Institute of Technology, in New York. As an adult, Adam continued to play hockey while remaining a passionate Redwings fan.

Adam completed an AA Degree in music at Yavapai College. He loved playing the guitar, singing with friends, golfing and cooking. Adam was a deeply caring person, with many close friends.

Adam is survived by his parents, his stepfather, Chris Stalnaker, and his godparents, Jesse and Marcia Serrano; his brothers, Lincoln and Justin; and his sisters, Erin and Christa. He is also leaves his paternal grandfather, David M. Andrews; his aunts, Susan and Diane; and three cousins. In addition, he is survived by his companion, Malin Stachewsky, and countless friends.

A memorial service, for Adam will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017, at 4 p.m., at the Jay Lively Memorial Ice Rink, in Flagstaff, Arizona. Please share memories and stories.
