Helmut August Pleitgen

Helmut August Pleitgen was born Aug. 10, 1921, in Selters, Germany, to Julius and Elisabeth Pleitgen. Helmut grew up in a small village of Sessenhausen, where his family owned a chicken farm.

Helmut, a butcher by trade, experienced combat in WWII as a Calvary-man where he sustained multiple wounds and was a POW for two years. In 1952 he immigrated the family to the United States, where he worked as a butcher. Helmut and his wife Annemarie retired to Prescott, Arizona, where he continued to demonstrate his superb butchering skills for Young’s Farm.

Helmut was always active and enjoyed mountaineering, skiing, horseback riding and hunting. War wounds prevented continued physical adventure so he turned his passion to the arts. He loved to paint, carve and sculpture. But most of all Helmut loved his family.

Helmut entered the presence of our Lord on March 10, 2017. He is survived by his three children: Joe Pleitgen (Colorado), Elizabeth Schmidt (Arizona), and Tom Pleitgen (Arizona); six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Father, Grandfather (Opa), and Great Grandfather (UrOpa) will be missed but never forgotten.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the Skull Valley Bible Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Horses with H.E.A.R.T located in Chino Valley, AZ 86323.
