Local shelter celebrates Adopt a Cat month with $5 adoptions
Yavapai Humane Society is having a $5 Feline Adoption Event from June 23-25. During this event, adoption fees for all adult cats (age 6 months and older) will be lowered to just $5.
Each spring during “kitten season” thousands of newborn kittens are added to the millions of cats already in shelters across the county. With this in mind YHS is joining shelters nationwide in recognizing June as National Adopt a Cat month. Having a large number of kittens coming into shelters means mellow, older cats are often overlooked. YHS hopes the $5 Feline Adoption Event will give wonderful adult cats the homes they deserve while making room for the 52 kittens currently in the YHS foster program.
“We love our cute and fuzzy kittens, but adult cats offer many benefits to pet parents and they definitely shouldn’t be overlooked,” said Elisabeth Haugan, marketing & development director. “For example, mature cats require less attention and supervision than kittens; they typically already know the rules of the average home, like litter box training; and they are generally more patient with children.”
The $5 Feline Adoption Event is valid at YHS Pet Adoption Center (1625 Sundog Ranch Road, Prescott) and Prescott PetSmart Cat Adoption Center (277 Walker Road, Prescott).
All pets adopted from YHS have been spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccinations, are microchipped, are eligible for a free wellness check within the first 10 days of adoption, and have received medical and behavior assessments—a pre-adoption package worth $400 value in treatment.
All adopters must still adhere to all YHS adoption policies and speak with adoption counselor prior to being able to adopt. You can view adoptable pets online at www.yavapaihumane.org/adopt. Please call the YHS Pet Adoption Center at 928-445-2666 to answer any questions.
